Wolves pounce on Rockford...win 7-1
The Chicago Wolves scored 3 goals in the opening 10 minutes to set the stage for a 7-1 victory over the Rockford Ice Hogs on November 29th at Allstate Arena.
“I'm happy we scored seven goals, but I am even more happy that we limited their chances,” said Wolves head coach John Anderson. “I hope we didn’t waste all our goals tonight with the rematch Saturday.”
The Wolves opened the scoring at just 3 minutes and 5 seconds into the game during a 4 on 4. Chicago controlled the puck in the offensive zone for a long time until defenseman Taylor Chorney received a pass in the slot. He glided backward in the far circle, faked a defender into dropping to the ice and fired a shot between Rockford goaltender Kent Simpson's legs for a goal. Center Corey Locke and defenseman Brent Regner received the assists.
Chicago added to the lead on right wing Ty Rattie's power play goal at 7 minutes and 41 seconds of the period. Defenseman Cade Fairchild rifled a shot from the left point that Simpson deflected to Corey Locke in the far circle. Locke couldn't convert the rebound, but Rattie was in position on the other side of the crease and knocked the puck into the open net.
The Wolves just needed two minutes to score another power play goal as Fairchild's pass from the point to Rattie along the goal line set up a tic-tac-toe for right winger Shane Harper at 9 minutes and 41 seconds. The 3-0 Chicago lead led to Simpson being pulled and Rockford goaltender Mac Carruth coming in.
The goalie change for Rockford didn't help much though because in the second period, left wing Dmitrji Jaskin made the score 4-0 Wolves when his bullet from the near circle beat Carruth glove side at 2 minutes and 15 seconds. Assists went to center Pat Cannone and defenseman Evan Oberg.Taylor Chorney added a power play goal at 8 minutes and 38 seconds of the second (assists to right wing Mike Davies and Dmitrji Jaskin).
Dmitrji Jaskin added his second goal of the night at 34 seconds of the third period. Assists went toCannone and Oberg. Wolves center Christian Hanson made the score 7-0 at 13 minutes and 34 seconds when he redirected Fairchild's blast. Assists went to Fairchild and left wing Sergey Andronov. Rockford's only goal was scored at 16 minutes and 24 seconds of the period by Terry Broadhurst..but obviously it was too little too late. It spoiled Wolves goalie Jake Allen's shutout but its okay!
