The Dallas Stars have acquired defensemen Carl Sneep from the Pittsburgh Penguins to help bolster their blueline down in via. trade on Thursday.

In exchange, the Pittsburgh Penguins receive a conditional seventh-round draft pick.

Due to the lockout ending, Dallas’ AHL affiliate the Texas Stars lost a big portion of their blueline as both Brendan Dillon and Jordie Benn made the move to the NHL for, what may be the remainder of the season. The acquisition of Sneep also ensures that the Stars have depth should an injury occur to either club.

Sneep has spent all season playing with the Wheeling Nailers – Pittsburgh’s ECHL affiliate.  In 29 games, Sneep has netted 3 goals, and added 12 assists while also maintaining a plus-12 rating.

The 25-year old St. Louis Park, Minnesota native was selected in the second round, 32nd overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. In two seasons with Pittsburgh’s AHL affiliate, Wilkes-Barrie/Scranton Penguins, Sneep has posted 4 goals and 23 assists in 101 games.
