The St. John’s IceCaps took a big step forward Tuesday in preparation for the 2013-14 season when the club announced they had signed 4-players to new contracts.

The official release by the St. John’s IceCaps went as followed:

The St. John’s IceCaps are pleased to announce they have agreed to terms with Yasin Cisse, Will O’Neill, Blair Riley and Ryan Schnell on American Hockey League contracts. As per club policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

The 25-year old, O’Neill played his first full season in the American Hockey League with the IceCaps last season appearing in 59 games. During that time he netted 3 goals, and added 18 assists with 32 penalty minutes. O’Neill, a native of Salem, Massachusetts was drafted in the 7th round, 210 overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers.

No doubt fans will be glad to have O’Neill back in the lineup as he is improving his game each season as he develops into a well-rounded hockey player. O’Neill has good vision on the ice, and will only improve this IceCaps team.

24-Year old, Ryan Schnell had also spent some time with the IceCaps last year as he split the 2012-13 season between the IceCaps and the Colorado Eagles of the ECHL. In 22 AHL games, Schnell amounted 57 penalty minutes. Meanwhile, in Colorado, Schnell tallied 4 goals and 3 assists with 105 penalty minutes in 12 games.

The 6-3, 225 pound forward will bring some grit back to this IceCaps lineup. Schnell is not afraid to drop the gloves or make a big hit to get his team going. According to hockeyfights.com, Schnell appeared in 14 fights during the 2012-13 season.

Blair Riley suited up for 74 AHL games last season playing for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The 27-year old Kamloops, BC native tallied 7 goals and 8 assists with 165 penalty minutes over that time. In 144 AHL games spent between Springfield, San Antonio, Peoria and Bridgeport, Riley has 15 goals and 14 assists.

Just like Schnell, Riley will also bring toughness to the IceCaps lineup. During his time in the AHL last season, Riley dropped the gloves for a total of 21 fights. No doubt IceCaps fans will look to Riley to spark his team.

21-Year old Yasin Cisse split his time last season between the QMJHL and Boston University. During 27 games with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the QMJHL, Cisse put up 8 goals and 14 points. As well, while suiting up for Boston University he managed 2 assists and 16 penalty minutes in 13 games. Cisse was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fifth round, 150th overall in the 2010 NHL Draft.
