The Manchester Monarchs, AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings have signed right winger Sean Backman to an American Hockey League contract Wednesday afternoon.
Hubie McDonough, Monarchs Dir. Of Hockey Operations stated that the Monarchs have signed White Plains, NY native Sean Backman. The 27 year old played for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the past two seasons, AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders. Appearing in 67 games last season, Backman tallied 11 goals and 10 assists for a total of 21 points and a plus/minus rating of 4. Before joining the Sound Tigers in 2011, Backman split the 2010 between the AHL Texas Stars and the ECHL Idaho Steelheads. Backman attended college at Yale University for 4 years where he played in 122 games and had 126 points. In Sean’s last year at Yale, they won the 2009 ECAC Men’s Ice hockey Championship, where Backman was named MVP of the tournament as he scored a hat trick in the final game to win the championship.
Sean is expected to make his Monarchs home debut on Saturday October 19th at 7:00 pm at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH.
