The Manchester Monarchs, AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, Director of Hockey Operations, Hubie McDonough announced Friday that the Monarchs have signed goalie Mathias Niederberger to a one-year AHL contract.

          The 20 year old, Dusseldorf, Germany native played for the Barrie Colts in the Ontario Hockey League for the past 2 seasons. In his most recent season, 2012-2013, he played in 56 games and had a record of 35-12-2-1. Niederberger had a 2.34 GAA with a .933 save percentage ranking him 3rd overall. He led the OHL in saves collecting 1,629 and was 3rd for wins with 35. During the 2013 postseason he appeared in 22 games with a 2.60 GAA and a .928 save % giving him a record of 15-6. He led the Barrie Colts to the J. Ross Robertson Cup Final where they fell to the London Knights.

          Mathias will be paired up with goalie Martin Jones next season for the Manchester Monarchs. The Monarchs home opener is Saturday, October 19th at 7:00 at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH.
