The Toronto Marlies maintained their hold on first in the in the North Division Wednesday night as the club defeated the Lake Erie Monsters 2-1.

 

Both teams found themselves tied at 0 after the first period, as both goaltenders turned aside 9 shots apiece to remain scoreless.

 

The Marlies would strike first in the second period as Mike Zigomanis tallied his fifth goal of the season, beating Monsters goaltender Calvin Pickard for a 1-0 lead.

 

Geoff Walker would finally get the Monsters on the board in the third as he beat Marlies netminder Drew MacIntyre for his 4th of the season. The game wouldn’t be tied for long as Joe Colborne tallied his 11th of the season just 23 second later for the 2-1 score. The Monsters would put together a push late in the game, but MacIntyre stood tall for the victory.

 

MacIntyre turned away 29 shots in the victory, meanwhile Pickard stopped 22 shots in a losing effort. The Marlies went 0/5 on the powerplay while the Monsters went 0/3.

 

The Marlies will host the Rochester Americans Saturday evening at 5:00 EST. Meanwhile, the Monsters will return home to host the same Toronto Marlies club Sunday evening in a rematch of tonight’s contest.
