After spending the month of February on the road, the San Antonio Rampage capped off a successful road trip Wednesday night with a 3-0 victory over the Utica Comets.

The Rampage were on a season-high 10-game road trip which occupied the full month of February, but it appeared to be just what the club needed as Wednesday’s victory meant the team finished the road swing with a 7-2-1 record that included 2-shutout victories.

Forward Joey Crabb got things started for the Rampage on Wednesday as he fired a shot past Comets goaltender Joacim Eriksson for a 1-0 lead on the powerplay.

Just over 6-minutes later, Crabb would once again light the lamp as he beat Eriksson with his 11th of the season for a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

In the second period, both goaltenders stood tall as neither team managed to get on the board. Jacob Markstrom and the Rampage defence in particular stood tall as minors from Jed Ortmeyer and Quinton Howden meant that the Comets had a 5-on-3 for a minute and thirty seconds.

In the third, Crabb would cap off a magnificent night with a hat trick as he once again scored a powerplay goal, this on coming just under 5-minutes into the third.

Vincent Trocheck would assist on all three Crabb goals, while defencemen Colby Robak would lay claim to two assists on the night.

Rampage netminder Jacob Markstrom turned aside 22 shots to post his second shutout of the season and second of the great road trip. Meanwhile, Eriksson stopped 27 of 30 shots in the loss.

Thanks to the hot play as of late, the Rampage find themselves just 2-points out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The club will return home where they will host state rival Texas Stars on Saturday evening.
