The Manchester Monarchs, AHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have extended the contract of the most winningest Head Coach in Monarchs history, Mark Morris.

          Dean Lombardi, Kings’ President and General Manager announced Tuesday that Mark Morris, coach of the Monarchs for the past 7 season will return to Manchester, NH for an 8th. In Morris’ 7 season tenure with the Monarchs, he led the team to 290 regular season wins and 23 playoff wins with a total of 313 wins, the most wins by any coach in franchise history. He also led the team to only 205 regular season, 24 overtime, and 33 shootout losses, giving Mark a record of 313-262 during his time with the Monarchs over 7 seasons. Morris also holds the record for the most Monarchs games coached with 575 games.

          The Massena, New York native was a huge part of the 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Kings as he coached and developed over half of the Champion team at one point in his career; players such as Kevin Westgrath, Slava Voynov, Dwight King, Jordan Nolan, Jonathan Quick, Brad Richardson, Jonathan Bernier, and much more. When Mark was asked about his contract extension he stated, “I’m looking forward to coaching again this upcoming season in Manchester.” He went on to say, “It’s a great environment. The people connected to the team really make it that way; specifically the hockey staff, the players, the front office staff, the people who operate the Verizon Wireless Arena, the sponsors, and the hockey community who follow and support us… We will continue to push for excellence win games, and compete our tails off every night…”

          Dean Lombardi stated, “We are very pleased with the job Mark has done with our prospects in Manchester over the last seven seasons.” He also said, “Mark has enriched the talent of our club by understanding the delicate balance between winning in Manchester and developing players to win the Stanley Cup.” Mark Morris and the entire Monarchs players, staff, and fans hope to bring the Calder Cup to Manchester for the first time in franchise history as they start the quest on Opening Night, Saturday October 19th 2013 at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH.
