The St. John’s IceCaps jumped out to an early lead in the game, and didn’t look back as they claimed a 4-1 win over the Eastern Conference leading Manchester Monarchs.

The IceCaps entered the Monarchs zone early in the period, and it paid off as captain Jason Jaffray fired  the puck past Monarchs goalie Jean-Francois Berube for his 10th of the season and the 1-0 lead. The goal came at the 52-second mark of the first period.

In the second period, the IceCaps special teams went to work to put the Monarchs in an even deeper hole. Forward Johnny Albert tallied his 5th goal of the season as the IceCaps were on the penalty kill to put the IceCaps up 2-0.

Just over 5-minutes later, the IceCaps special teams went to work again, this time with the man advantage as forward Jerome Samson tallied his 10th of the season putting St. John’s ahead 3-0.

The Monarchs would break Eddie Pasquale’s shutout bid in the third as Nick Deslauriers tallied his 14th of the season at the 14:17 point of the third period to cut the lead to 3-1.

Jerome Samson would ice the game with 14-seconds remaining in the third as he put the puck into an empty net for a 4-1 victory.

Eddie Pasquale stopped 36 of 37 shots for the victory, meanwhile Berube stopped 27 in a losing effort.

Both teams will play once again on Saturday Night from Mile One Stadium starting at 7:30 Newfoundland Time.
