Ben Chiarot couldn’t have picked a better time to score his first goal of the season for the St. John’s IceCaps as he scored with 20 seconds left in overtime to cap a 5-4 thrilling comeback victory over the Syracuse Crunch Saturday Night. St. John’s had been down 4-0 early in the second period, before rallying for 5-unasnwered goals to secure the victory.

Cory Conacher and Alex Killorn both managed to beat IceCaps netminder Eddie Pasquale for their 12th goals of the season in the first period for the 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.

Defencemen Keith Aulie put Syracuse ahead 3-0 just 5:20 into the second period, followed by Vladislav Namestnikov just under two-minutes later for the 4-0 lead.

Eric O’Dell finally got St. John’s on the board just under a minute later as he managed to beat Syracuse goaltender Riku Helenius for his 5th of the season. Defencemen Paul Postma then cut the lead to half over 3-minutes later as the Crunch headed into the final period up 4-2.

Jason Gregoire pulled St. John’s within one goal just 1:53 into the final period. Will O’Neill would draw the IceCaps even at the 7:32 mark with his first goal of the season as the teams sat at 4-goals apiece.

Eddie Pasquale made 29 saves for the IceCaps in the victory, while Riku Helenius stopped 28-shots for the Crunch.

The Crunch will now fly to Wilkes-Barrie to take on the Penguins Monday evening while the IceCaps will travel to New York to take on the Binghampton Senators Monday evening as well.
