The St. John’s IceCaps announced Sunday that the Club has sent forward Spencer Machacek to the Springfield Falcons in exchange for forward Tomas Kubalik.


Machacek, was selected in the third round, 67th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2008 NHL Draft. The 6 foot 1, 195-pound right winger has 11 goals and 14 assists this season in 57 games with the IceCaps. Last season, he led the IceCaps in scoring with 18 goals and 32 assists. In 341 AHL games spent between the Chicago Wolves and Icecaps, Machacek has 93 goals, and 132 points.


The 24-year old, Lethbridge Alberta native has played 25 career NHL games with the Winnipeg Jets in which he tallied 2 goals and 7 assists. He was part of a Vancouver Giants team that won a Memorial Cup back in 2007.


Kubalik, a native of Plzen, Czech Republic has played in 54 games for the Falcons this season scoring 14 goals and adding six assists. In 180 career games, Kubalik has 49 goals and 96 points.


The 22-year old, Kubalik, was a fifth round pick (135th overall) by the Columbus Blue Jackets back in 2008. In 12-career NHL games, he has 1 goal and 3 assists.
