Chicago wolves spoil Charlotte Checkers "home coming" with a score of 2-1
The Chicago Wolves spoiled the Charlotte Checkers "home coming" after a long road trip by beating them 2-1 Thursday night at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC.
The Checkers struck first as right wing Adam Brace picked up a deflection off of Wolves goaltender Jake Allen in front of the net to beat him stick side at 4 minutes and 22 seconds of the second period. Assist went to Rissanen. Just over a minute later, the Wolves responded on a delayed call against the Checkers when center Alexandre Bolduc moved into the offensive zone 1 on 3, forcing Charlottes defenders to take a penalty to deter him. Before the Checkers could gain possession to stop play, Wolves defenseman David Shields received the puck near the faceoff circle and beat Checkers goaltender John Muse with a quick shot. Assists went to right win Mark Mancari and defenseman Taylor Chorney)
Shields also played an integral role in Chicago's goal late in the second period, the eventual game-winner. Shields intercepted a Checkers pass just inside the blue line and fed it towards the net to forward Nathan Longpre who capitalized.
The Wolves continue their "circus road trip" in Charlotte Saturday at 6 pm at the Time Warner Cable Arena.
